How to Clean Outdoor Furniture (Without Ruining It)

Let’s face it, British weather isn’t kind to garden furniture. One minute it's blazing sunshine, the next it's raining sideways. So how do you keep your outdoor set looking good without scrubbing for hours?

Here’s how to clean outdoor furniture properly, whether it’s wicker, metal, cushions or glass.

🧺 1. Wicker & Rattan (Synthetic HDPE)

  • Mix warm water and a splash of mild detergent

  • Use a soft brush (not a wire one!) to gently scrub between the weave

  • Rinse off with a hose (don’t blast it on full pressure)

  • Let it dry fully before covering or storing

Avoid: harsh bleach or abrasive scrubbing pads

✔️ Our Amalfi Collection uses HDPE wicker it's ultra low-maintenance, just wipe clean

🪑 2. Powder-Coated Aluminium

  • Wipe with warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth

  • Use a toothbrush for tricky corners

  • Dry with a soft towel to avoid water spots

⚠️ Avoid metal polish, it’s not needed and could strip the coating

🧼 3. Cushions

If your cushions are Olefin (like ours):

  • Brush off dirt or crumbs

  • Spot-clean with mild soap and warm water

  • Let them air dry fully  (never tumble dry)

  • Covers are removable but check washing instructions

🪟 4. Glass Tabletops

  • Use regular glass cleaner or diluted vinegar

  • Dry with a lint-free cloth for a streak-free finish

  • Clean underneath too, you'd be surprised what hides there
