  • 3 x wall battens (for the left, right and back walls)
  • Wall plugs and screws for fitting

These shelves are ideal for cupboards, alcoves, under-stairs storage, and utility spaces. The MDF is smooth and easy to paint or seal, giving you the option to finish it your way.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: The screws and wall plugs we provide are suitable for drywall but for added strength we recommend using gripfill on the support battens when fitting.

Yes, but it is best to pre-drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the material.

Our shelves arrive with cut-to-size wall battens with pre-drilled holes, so you won't need to screw into the MDF itself during installation.

A: The support battens are each 20mm thick, which would allow you to order to your smallest width if the discrepancy was a few mm. If there is a significant disproportion, the carpenter can make the shelves to fit these measurements. For this we ask you order to your largest measurement and specify measurements in the personalisation (eg; 91.5cm at the front 93.5cm at the back) or if you are unsure, please do message.

A: We recommend taking off 5mm (0.5cm) from your width. This allows for any discrepancies in the wall and makes fitting easier.

Absolutely! MDF is a great surface to paint because you don't need to worry about sealing knots or differences in wood tones. We recommend using a primer first or opt for paint with a self-priming formula (Lick paint or Frenchic work well for MDF)

It depends on how they're supported, but our 18mm MDF can hold a substantial load when fitted with wall battens on three sides.

We are currently operating at 7 working days for custom orders. If you need your shelves sooner, please get in touch before ordering.

Before you start, make sure the shelf is completely dry and dust-free. Avoid using anything damp on raw MDF.

1. Apply your first coat and let is dry fully (follow your paint brand's recommended drying time).

2. Once dry, use 240-grit sandpaper to lightly sand the shelf. It's normal for the edges to look a bit fluffy after the first coat, just sand them smooth.

3. Apply your second coat.

4. If you're doing a third coat, we recommend sanding again with a higher grit paper for an ultra-smooth, glassy finish.

We don't recommend bare MDF in very damp spaces, but you can seal or paint it to add moisture protection.
